1. Joseph Brearley, son of John & Phoebe Brearley was born abt. 1760 and died Oct. 15, 1785, by drowning at Sweet Arrow Creek, Pennsylvania. Married abt. 1783 to Lydia Colburn/Colborn born March 23, 1764, died April 8, 1834
daughter of John Colborn and Hoogland/Hooglandt. (Lydia Colborn Brearley married 2nd abt. 1786 to Thomas Hamilton, (a revolutionary war soldier) she is buried beside her second husband Thomas Hamilton in Lansing, NY, in Old Meth. Cemetery, also known as White's Settlement Cemetery. See Hamilton Family History for more details on the Hamilton Family.

3. Joseph Brearley Jr., was born Feb. 20, 1786. His mother was pregnant for Joseph when his father drowned in Oct. 15, 1785 and he was born Feb. 20, 1786. He died Oct. 22, 1855, (other records state he died in 1854, but his headstone clearly states Oct. 22, 1855) He is buried on his homestead on Brearley Hill Road, Town of Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY. They lived in the Town of Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY on Brearley Hill. On Brearley Hill Road, living across the road was the Andrew Hamilton family a half brother to Joseph. Andrew Hamilton is buried on the land where he lived. Andrew's parents were Thomas Hamilton and Lydia Colburn. This Lydia Colburn married first Joseph Brearley Sr., then after his death she married Thomas Hamilton a neighbor who also lost his wife (Sarah Westfall Hamilton) at the same time from drowning. Lydia and Thomas Hamilton had more children. Joseph Brearley married in Lansing, Tompkins Co., NY on April 19, 1807 to Catherine Cheeseman born abt. 1791 died Jan. 20, 1875 age 84 years, 18 dys. Catherine is buried beside her husband on Brearley Hill in the Brearley Family Plot, Town of Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY. Believe Catherine was the daughter of Ezekiel & Athaliah Cheesman. Ezekiel is buried in Lansing, NY. Catherine was a sister to Elizabeth Cheesman Hamilton, 1st wife of Andrew Hamilton a half brother of Joseph Brearley.Children that have been found for them are as follows: David, Andrew, Sarah, Ezekiel, John A.,

4. David Brearley , born May 28,1808 died Dec. 24, 1878. He married on April 28, 1831 to Mary Ann Fuller born abt. 1812 per 1880 census, Barton, Tioga Co., NY. Mary Ann was living with her son James "Edward" Brearley in 1880.

Her age was 48 yrs.6. John "Wesley" Brearley born December 20, 1833 died March 16, 1911 age 77 yrs., 2 mo., 16 dys., son of David & Mary Ann (Fuller) Brearley. 1880 census Barton, Tioga Co., NY lists him as being a Carpenter & joiner. He married 28 SEP 1856 to Susan B. or C. Root, in Spencer, Tioga Co., NY. Susan was born 1837 died 1932 at the age of 95 yrs. at the home of her nephew, Lewis Dutcher, of Coventry. 6a. William D. Brearley, son of John Wesley & Susan Root Brearley, born about 1858 (per 1880 Barton, Tioga Co., NY census. Died suddenly Easter morning, April 17, 1927. W. D. Brearley, married Etta Whalen on Sept. 18, 1878. They were living in Union, Broome Co., NY in 1920, his mother was living with them then.
7. Edith E. Brearley, daughter of John Wesley & Susan (Root) Brearley, born November 5, 1859 died 1949. Edith married May 24, 1882 to Elmer E. Banfield, of Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY, son of John & Calista (Hemingway) Banfield. born 1861 died 1927, They are buried in Halsey Valley Cemetery, Tioga Co., NY. Edith died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leila B. Webb, 156 Prospect Avenue.13. James "Edward" Brearley, born Jan. 12, 1838, son of David & Mary Ann (Fuller) Brearley. Brearley Banfield, born May 3, 1883, Lelia died 1955, she married 1915 to Cassius Webb. Lelia is buried next to her parents in Halsey Valley Cemetery. No grave for her husband was found yet.
9. Clara Banfield, born Sept. 6, 1885 died Sept. 26, 1887, Buried in Halsey Valley Cemetery, Tioga Co., NY.

Also Floyd E. 1885-1958 and Emma J., 1890 - 1965. 1910 census shows they also had a son Harold J., born abt. 1901. Obit. for Edgar R. Brearley, 89, of 12 Arthur Ave., Endicott, died at 6:20 a. m., today at Wilson Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Mrs., Sally E. Brearley; tree sons, Ralph W., of Johnson City, Floyde E., and Harold J., both of Vestal; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Endicott First Methodist Church, its Oxford Class, the Endicott Lodge IOOF for the past 69 years, and was a retired Endicott Johnson employee, having retired in 1936 after 22 years of service. The body was moved to the Allen Memorial Home 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, where the family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

He married 1931 Gladys Glennora Neily, daughter of Mrs. Harvey Carpenter. Gladys died 1966 age 57 yrs. They had a son Lawrence Brearley. Grandchildren: Jeffrey, Lisa and James Brearley, all of Apalacin. Burial was at Vestal Hill Memoral Park Cemetery.

19. Hattie C. Brearley, born 1846 in Pennsylvania, daughter of David & Mary Ann (Fuller) Brearley, died Feb. 21, 1856. She is buried next to her grandparents, Joseph & Catherine Brearley on the old Brearley Homestead. Town Lore states Little Hattie Brearley born abt. 1848 died 1856 age 8 years old, she died from being dragged by a horse down the road. After her death they named the road in which she had been dragged to death on, after her. This is how Brearley Hill Road received the name. A monument once was placed next to her headstone with the story of her death. This memorial is no longer found, only the stories handed down by the people in the area that have told the story that it once stood there.

Daniels. She married in Willseyville, Tioga Co., NY on Dec. 24, 1873 to James Edward Drew, of Danby, NY. She went by Rosa, she was living in Willseyville at the time of her marriage in 1873.

Carle 1820-1881, buried in Smith Valley Cemetery, located on 96B between Candor and Willseyville, Tioga Co., NY, she was the dau. of William & Elizabeth Carle who lived next door to the Joseph Brearley family on Brearley Hill. Her parents are buried on the Carle Family Homestead just a short distance from the Brearley Homestead Burial Ground. (1/8 of a mile) Their children found were; Arthur J., and Willis35. Arthur J. Jerome Brearley found in 1892 age 42 a farmer living in the Town of Caroline, with wife Francis age 40. by 1900 they are living in Binghamton, Broome Co., NY. children: George W. age 19, Seth R., age 17, John C. age 7.36. Willie J., b. Sept. 1855, married 22 yrs., Mary L., wife born Sept. 1851, mother of 2 children, with two living, Gracie, daughter, born June 1882 age 17, single; Alice or Alare, daughter born Aug. 1887, age 12. By 1910 Willie J. Brearley had married 2nd to Ida M. (_____), born abt. 1856. They had been married for three years, she was the mother of 3 children, with only one living, she was born in PA. 41. Arthelaer Caroline Brearley, born Jan. 25, 1819 in Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY, daughter of Joseph & Catherine (Cheesman) Brearley. Still living with her mother in 1860, Town of Caroline, NY. She died May 19, 1877, buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor, NY. Headstone inscription: Miss A. C. Brearley born Jan. 25, 1819 died May 19, 1877. She is buried next to Bell Brearley, daughter of Harry Brearley, and Hettie J. Scott, daughter of Abram & Martha (Brearley) Scott.
42. Mary Amanda Brearley, born abt. 1821 died Oct. 23, 1829 aged 8 yrs., 8 mo., 18 days. Buried in on the Brearley Homestead on Brearley Hill. Headstone was found in the 1950's, but only a broken headstone crumbled is left (unreadable) 2001.
43. Joseph "Henry" Brearley III, also known as "Harry", born April 6, 1823 died July 30, 1876 in Candor, Tioga Co., NY. Son of Joseph & Catherine (Cheesman) Brearley. He married Oct. 14, 1852 to Lydia M. Scott, she was the daughter of David & Elizabeth "Libbie" (Gardner) Scott, born 1830 a sister to Abram G. Scott who married Martha Ann Brearley below. In 1870 Harry and Lydia were living in Candor, Tioga Co., Harry was a Carpenter. After the death of Joseph "Henry", her husband, Lydia married June 14, 1887 Peter Carl, a 70 year old widower. They married at Niagara Falls.

Lydia Catharine Brearley, born May 8, 1825, daughter of Joseph & Catherine (Cheesman) Brearley. She was born in Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY. She married Sunday, April 15, 1849 by the Rev. E. A. Young, at Brearley Hill, Town of Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY to David H. Lamphier born May 17th 1824 in Candor, Tioga Co., NY. Lydia Catherine died in the Town of Candor, Tioga Co., NY on Dec. 20th 1891 at the age of 65 yrs., 4 months. David H. Lamphier died Sept. 17, 1891 at the age of 67 yrs., 4 mo's, he was born in Hunters, NY, son of George & Mary Simmons Lamphier. Lydia Catharine Brearley and her husband David Lamphier are both buried in Willseyville, Tioga Co., NY (Smith Valley Cemetery, Willseyville, NY) Note: death dates and burial information is from their death certificates. He was the son of Daniel Swartwood. This Lewis Swartwood married in 1882 to Matilda Brearley, born April 14, 1857 in Candor, Tioga Co., NY and died July 11, 1921 in Hornell, Steuben Co., NY. Child: William Henry Swartwood, born April 18, 1887 in Hornellsville, NY.

Believe he was Barzillia Gibbs, born Jan. 1848. They lived in Lansing, Tompkins Co., NY. Children: Fred M., born August 1873; Louise L., born July 1875; Burt born abt. 1878; Infant male only 2 months old June 7, 1880 when the census was taken.

Scott, born 1829, son of David Scott & Libbie Gardner, died 1914, he is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor, Tioga Co., NY with his 2nd wife. His children by 1st wife: Willis Scott born about 1855; Josephine Scott, born abt. 1857 [Josephine, may be the same as Hettie J.]. Abram G. Scott had three children by Martha and after she died he had George W. in 1866; Ulysses Grant Scott b. 1868; Charles E. Scott b. March 1870; Harley J. Scott b.1877; Ethel C. Scott b.1882; and Percy W. Scott b. 1866. 1892 Census Town of Caroline gives the following information; Abram SCOTT age 65; Martha SCOTT age 46; Harley J. age 16; Ethel SCOTT age 10; Percy W. SCOTT age 6; Erroy W. SCOTT age 7.
Abraham is listed on most records as Abram G. Scott, or A. G. Scott, he was born 1828, on census records he is listed as farmer, and cooper. He lived on Brearley Hill Road in Caroline, Tompkins County, NY.
