Benjamin Genung, born May 10, 1758 died March 9, 1832, son of Jonas 1740-1776 and Deborah (Carter) 1737-1821 Genung, born in Hanover Township, Morris Co., NJ, Revolutionary War Veteran. He came to this area in the year of 1799 to build his home, returning to NJ for his family. Moved to the Town of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY in the spring of 1800 with his family. Buried in Dutch Reformed Cemetery, West Slaterville, Town of Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY.Married May 9, 1780 to: Hannah (Beach) Whitehead born Dec. 7, 1756 died March 8, 1826, she was the daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah (Peck) Beach, she was married first to Timothy Whitehead. She also is buried in the Dutch Reformed Cemetery, West Slaterville, Tompkins Co., NY. Their children were: Barnabas, Aaron, Rachel Lockey, Philo, Chistopher Peron, Timothy.

Parker, born Jan. 9, 1812 died Feb. 14, 1889, believed to be the son of Wilson & Rhoda (Thorp) Parker. Samuel & Lydia are buried in Bowman Cemetery - now Charles Mulks Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Tompkins Co., NY. Lived in the Town of Candor, Tioga Co., NY., later in Owego, Tioga Co., NY. He as was a Carpenter and Farmer. Married May 9, 1838 to: Martha Dye, born Feb. 10, 1816 died May 4, 1890, she was born at DeRuyter, NY, daughter of James Rhodes Dye. Married Oct. 28, 1835 to: George Dickson, born Feb. 19, 1805 died March 10, 1887, their children were: Mary Elizabeth, William H., Chauncey Warren, Charles H., Susan M., Sarah L., Maria C., Julia A., Adelaide C., George Frank Dickson.
6. Rebecca Genung, dau. of Barnabas & Susannah (Johnson) Genung, born Jan. 29, 1819 died April 12, 1895, born in the Town of Danby, NY., Buried in Dutch Reformed Cemetery, West Slaterville, NY. Married at Dryden, NY on Nov. 4, 1838 to: Benajah John Strong, born August 25, 1814 died Dec. 22, 1906, born in Lansing, NY., son of Capt. Benajah and Elizabeth (Fulkerson) Strong. He was a stone mason and farmer. He also is buried in the Dutch Reformed Cemetery, West Slaterville, NY. Their children were: William Alonzo, Benajah George, John Henry, Martin Duane, Susie Occurence Strong.
The obituary of Benajah John Strong: "In Ithaca, at his home on Second Street, Dec. 22, 1906, Benajah J. Strong,
aged 92 years. Mr. Strong was a native of the town of Lansing and lived there and in the town of Caroline and Dryden nearly all of his life until about five years ago, when he came to Ithaca. He was a farmer and a mason by trade. He leaves two sons, and one daughter - William, of Binghamton, Martin of Owego, and Mrs. Susie Hover, with whom he resided at the time of his death. His wife, who was a sister of George Genung, died about eight years ago. He was well known throughout the county and retained a keen memory of early times. The funeral was held from his daughter's home on Wednesday, the Rev. Brown officiating. The interment was made at West Slaterville Springs."

Cavalry and served in the Civil War. Married Oct. 10, 1872 to Eudora F. Ridley, born Oct. 10 1851. She was a member of the Dauhters of Revolution.

ii. John C. Strong, born Dec. 6, 1880 died Jan. 1, 1899, son of William A. & Eudora Ridley Strongb. Benajah George Strong, son of Benajah John & Rebecca (Genung) Strong, born July 8, 1844 died Sept. 1903. He was in the Civil War. He was a broker at Saratoga, NY. Married Oct. 5, 1870 to Unknown, he had two daughters.

c. John Henry Strong, son of Benajah John & Rebecca (Genung) Strong, born July 14, 1847 died Dec. 13, 1875, he was a farmer in the Town of Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY. He married Oct. 15, 1872 to Alla Aldrich Kingsman, daughter of a Mr. Aldrich, and adopted by Lyman Kingman. After her husband's death she went west and married again. No children.
d. Martin Duane Strong, son of Benajah John & Rebecca (Genung) Strong, born July 5, 1853. He was a farmer near Caroline Centre, NY. He was a Stewart at Glenmary Hospital, Owego, NY. He married Oct. 10, 1877 to Ella Johnson born August 29, 1859.
i. Clarence Strong, born Jan. 21, 1880 died Oct. 15, 1902. Born in the Town of Caroline, NY. Lived in Elmira. He was a Rail Road Brakeman. Killed by striking a bridge while on duty. Married June 26, 1901 to Mattie A. Seeley of Seeley Creek, PA. No children.e. Susie Occurence Strong, daugther of Benajah John & Rebecca (Genung) Strong, born May 24, 1857. She lived in Town of Caroline, and Ithaca, NY. She married Oct. 20, 1874 to Marvin Hoover, born Dec. 26, 1852, believe he was the son of Bejamin & Mariah Hoover of Candor, NY. He was a carpenter. They had two children: Lena and Morris

2. Aaron Genung son of Benjamin & Hannah (Beach) Genung, born December 25, 1787 died November 11, 1879, born in Morris Co., NJ., Came to the Town of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY with his father in 1800. He was a soldier in the war of 1812 in Capt. Peleg Ellis' Company in the Niagara Campaign. He was a farmer, buried in Snyder Hill Cemetery, Town of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY. Married Rebecca Snyder, daughter of Jacob & Mary (Schoonover) Snyder, born June 23, 1793 died January 7, 1867, She is buried in Snyder Hill Cemetery, Town of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY.

Genung, dau. of Barnabas & Susannah (Johnson) Genung, born Jan. 1, 1821 died Aug. 6, 1883, born at Snyder Hill, NY., lived in Town of Caroline, NY., buried in Dutch Reformed Cemetery, West Slaterville, NY., Married in the Town of Dryden, NY., by the Rev. Garrett Mandeville, on April 20, 1841 to: Henry DeWitt DePuy, (pronounced Depew) born April 16, 1817 died April 25, 1904, born in the town of Rochester, Ulster Co., NY., he was the son of John B., & Ann (Greatsinger) DePuy, he was a boatman and farmer, later a merchant, at Freeville, NY., he married 2nd May 16, 1885 to Margaret A. Harvey, by who he had no children. Believe she was married to Dennis Harvey first. Children of Sarah and Henry D. DePuy were:
a. John B. DePuy son of Henry DeWitt DePuy & Sarah C. Genung, born Feb. 7, 1847 in the Town of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY. He enlisted Sept. 21, 1861 in Co. E 64th Regt., NY Vol. He was a Sergeant, and died of his wounds received at Fair Oaks, June 1, 1862 and died on June 4, 1862. He is buried on the battle field (per Genung Genealogy). There is a headstone for him in Dutch Reformed Cemetery, West Slaterville, Tompkins Co., NY.
b. Henry DeWitt DePuy son of Henry DeWitt DePuy & Sarah C. Genung born Oct. 23, 1843 in the Town of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY. He was a Harness maker at Freeville, NY. He married Dec. 13, 1877 to Rosella A. Harvey born Sept. 28, 1859. Henry DeWitt DePuy died in 1926 Rosella died 1933, they are both buried in the Dutch Reformed Cemetery, West Slaterville, Tompkins Co., NY.
Their children were: Harvey L. DePuy; Flora Bella DePuy. Harvey Luck Depuy was born Jan. 12, 1879 (changed spelling of surname to DePew) married in 1904 to Lottie Idell Miles from Beaver Meadows, NY and they moved to Norwich, NY. They had the following children: Paul Arthur DePew m. Genevieve White; Flora Marion DePew died at age 10; Lyndon A. DePew m. Norma Henry; Harry DePew m. Nellie Robinson (Harry & Nellie changed surname to "Dee"; Miles Harvey DePew (twin with Harry); Chauncey M. DePew drowned at age 4 years old.c. Mary Kate DePuy daughter of Henry DeWitt DePuy & Sarah C. Genung, born March 11, 1845 in the Town of Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY. She lived in Brooktondale, and Ithaca, NY. She married May 21, 1863 Reuben G. Tucker born abt. 1844, son of Edward & Mary Ann Tucker. Reuben was a farmer and storekeeper in the Town of Caroline, NY. He later became a real estate agent in Ithaca, NY. Their children were: Georogia Rosetta; John DeWitt; William Wilson; Arminta Augusta; Fannie Louise; Zaida May.
1. Georgia Rosetta Tucker, dau. of Mary Kate DePuy and Reuben Tucker, born May 2, 1867 died fall of 1858, she lived in Auburn, NY at one time, she married William Bates born April 17, 1861 died 1946. He was a conductor on the Lehigh Valley Rail Road. They both are buried in Dutch Reformed Cemetery, West Slaterville, Town of Caroline, NY. Their children were: Genevieve Pauline Bates; and Will Llewellyn Bates.
d. George Genung DePuy, son of Henry DeWitt DePuy & Sarah C. Genung, born Dec. 14, 1847. He was a Telegraph operator for Lehigh Valley Rail Road of Freeville, NY. President of the Village in 1890 (Freeville) He married Jan. 12, 1870 to Eunice Smith born Nov. 14, 1847 died Jan. 1915, she was the daughter of Bradford & Susan Huslander Smith from Caroline, NY. No children have been found.2. John DeWitt Tucker born Dec. 14, 1868. He was a Real estate agent at Buffalo, NY.

4. Arminta Augusta Tucker dau. of Mary Kate DePuy and Reuben Tucker, born March 11, 1873 in Ithaca, NY., She married Feb. 5, 1895 to Fred Lyon, born April 30, 1867, he was an Engineer and inventor. They had at least one child; Neil Benjamin Lyon born May 9, 1900.
5. Fannie Louisa Tucker dau of Mary Kate DePuy and Reuben Tucker, born Oct. 30, 1874, lived in Buffalo, NY. married Sept. 1894 to James Loveless. At least one child: Gerald Duane Loveless born March 23, 1897.
6. Zaida May Tucker dau. of Mary Kate DePuy and Reuben Tucker, born Aug. 27, 1882, lived in Pittsburg, PA. married April 4, 1899 to Clarence Fuller born June 2, 1876.

Genung, dau. of Barnabas & Susannah (Johnson) Genung, born Feb. 12, 1823 died Feb. 6, 1890, She was born at Snyder Hill, NY., died in the Town of Barton, Tioga Co., NY., Married Feb. 2, 1844 to: Josiah Mansfield, born Aug. 25, 1819 died Jan. 9, 1896, a farmer, boatman, and proprietor of the Green Tree Inn on the Catskill Turnpike. southeast of Ithaca, NY., lived in the Town of Barton, Tioga Co., NY. Their children were: Frances I., Estella R., Charles S., Ida, Fred C. Mansfield.9. Enos H. Genung, son of Barnabas & Susannah (Johnson) Genung, born Feb. 26, 1825 died May 11, 1905, born at Snyder Hill, NY., he lived on Snyder Hill and then Town of Caroline until about 1885, except for a few years during the 1860's when he resided at Barton Center, Tioga Co., NY., about 1885 he moved to Waverly, NY., where he afterwards lived. He was a farmer, died at Waverly, NY., buried at Central Chapel Cemetery, Town of Caroline, NY., Married April 7, 1850 to: Sarepta Earsley, born June 21, 1827 died Sept. 18, 1882, dau. of George & Mary (Schoonmaker) Earsley of Caroline, NY. Their children were: Emma R., George DeWitt, Della, Priscilla, Luella, and Reuben E. Genung.

Married by Hoffman Steenburgh on Dec. 22, 1853 to: Rebecca Jewell, born Sept. 2, 1836 died April 15, 1903, daughter of Enoch Jewell, (per Genung Genealogy/Jewell Genealogy states she was the daughter of George Jewell and Elizabeth Shaw and that she was born Sept. 2, 1834) Their children were: Catherine Elizabeth "Kate", Henry Armenus, Daniel DeWitt, Albert Smith Genung.
12. Barnabas Genung, son of Barnabas & Susannah (Johnson) Genung, born April 4, 1833 died June 25, 1904, lived and died at Brookton, NY (now Brooktondale), farmer and laborer. Married Feb. 12, 1859 to: Urena Jane Sloughter, dau. of Benjamin and Sally (Pew) Sloughter, born July 23, 1838 died Jan. 2, 1881. He was born at Snyder Hill, Town of Dryden, NY. He lived on Snyder Hill for a period of time, then moved to South Danby, Tompkins Co., NY. Married Nov. 11, 1837 to: Phebe Banfield daughter of Moses & Grace (Beers) Banfield, she was born August 28, 1815 died March 11, 1877, she also is buried in Curtis Cemetery, also known now as Danby Rural Cemetery. Their children were: Amasa Gilbert, Joel Banfield, Belle, Phebe J., Richard Beers.

Doctor of Medicine in Worcester, NY. Married June 28, 1900 to: Myrta Lillian Goodenough, born Nov. 21, 1870, daughter of Judson Goodenough. Children: Judson Whiton Genung and Dorothy C. Genung. Another record states that Lewell married 2nd Ethel L. Brown.

Clerk in Jewelry Store in Ithaca, NY., Went to Arizona and California. Enlisted in War of Spain, and went to Honolulu Hawaii. Clerk in house furnishing business, Ithaca, NY, and Baltimore, and later in Minneapolis, Minn. Married August 5, 1902 in Binghamton, NY to: Millie Eunice Martin, daughter of Jacob Martin of Binghamton, NY. Millie died in 1959.
They are both buried in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. All of their children were born in Robbinsdale, MN.

Wilber Aaron Genung, son of Jacob Peter & Angeline (Pew) Genung, born Dec. 11, 1862 died May 27, 1942, married Jennie May Barrett, dau. of Alonzo & Sarah (Hildreth) Barrett, born March 15, 1866 died Sept. 28, 1909. They are both buried in Snyder Hill Cemetery. Their children were: Arthur Wilber Genung, William Jacob Genung and Aaron Howard Genung. Wilber Aaron Genung married 2nd, June 6, 1912 to Fannie Manning, born Feb. 11, 1866 died Nov. 11, 1926, she was married first to a Mr. Waterman, Fanny and Mr Waterman had two children, Charles Waterman and Nelson Waterman. Fannie is also buried in Snyder Hill Cemetery, Town of Dryden, NY.

Adopted daughter Violet married Frank Allen, and they had two daughters, Dorothy and Ida.
4. John Henry English, son of John C. & Rebecca Jane (Genung) English, born Aug. 26, 1855 died August 7, 1916, Farmer, he kept horses and died after being accidentally kicked in the head. Buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Ithaca, Tompkins Co., NY. Married Elizabeth "Libbie" Cornelius, dau. of John W. & Margery (Willsey) Cornelius. She was born Sept. 7, 1862 died___? After John's death she went west to CA., where she and remarried. John and Elizabeth adopted a child, Wayne Elliott, born April 6, 1899 died 1983. Wayne married Josephine Ladd.

Mary Alice English, dau. of John C. & Rebecca Jane (Genung) English, born Aug. 16, 1858 died Dec. 11, 1915, she married Sept. 22, 1880 to Burdette Ross, born July 19, 1858 died 1936, they are buried at East Lawn Cemetery, Ithaca, NY. Their children were: Clara Ross, born 1881, Raymond Ross, born 1894.

Love, she married 2nd on Dec. 31, 1901 to Daniel E. Palmer who died Sept. 23, 1916 at the age of 73 years. Ida and Daniel are buried in Woodland Cemetery, Newfield, Tompkins Co., NY. Note, Daniel E. Palmer, was married first to Della (____) she died Jan. 27, 1890 age 50 yrs.
7. Joseph Aaron Genung, son of Aaron & Rebecca (Snyder) Genung, born Jan. 17, 1835 died Jan. 26, 1916, Farmer, Town Auditor. Married April 6, 1859 to Mary Eliza Cornelius, dau. of James & Eliza (Smith) Cornelius, born Sept. 21, 1839 died June 22, 1903, buried Snyder Hill Cemetery, Dryden, NY. Their children were: Estella Eliza, Nellie May, Mary Josephine.

Nellie May Genung, dau. of Joseph Aaron & Mary Eliza (Cornelius) Genung, born Oct. 7, 1864 died Oct. 7, 1955, married Sept. 26, 1893 to William Wallace Gillmer, born Dec. 28, 1864 died Feb. 26, 1930, son of Charles & Anna (Cornell) Gillmer. They are buried in Lake View Cemetery, Ithaca, NY. Their son, Charles Wallace Gillmer, born July 22, 1903. A grave in South Hill Cemetery was found as follows, Charles W. Gillmer born July 22, 1903 died Feb. 28, 1972, Army Air Forces. At the time of Nellie's death her obit. reads: Mrs. Nellie Gillmer, 91 of Snyder Hill Road, Ithaca, RD2 died Oct. 7, 1955 in the Leonard Nursing Home, Newfield, after a long illness. She is survived by a son: Wallace Gillmer of Ithaca, a grandson Donald Gillmer of Franklin Square, a sister Josephine Nichols of New York City and several cousins. Funeral services will be held at 4 pm Sunday in Bangs Funeral Home, 209 W. Green St., with Rev. William S. Hicks pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be Lake View Cemetery.

Their son was Edward Genung Nichols, born Aug. 22, 1899, died 1978, married Grace Vining, born 1899 died 1985, Edward and Grace are also buried in Snyder Hill Cemetery, they had 3 children.
