- Certificate # 34647 - Company K 137th N.Y. Infantry. On the original pension
application
dated 9 April 1864 Libbie Griffin stated that she was 55 years of age
and
a resident of Caroline, NY. Libbie Gardner Scott married Nehemiah
Griffin at Danby, Tompkins Co., NY May 1840. The ceremony was
performed
by Chas. C. Howell, Justice of the Peace. Nehemiah Griffin died
at
Candor, NY on July 1, 1852. There is sworn testimony to all facts
- signed by Abram G. Scott and William Sullivan. Libbie gave her
post office address as Wilseyville, Tioga Co., NY.
William H. Griffin was
enrolled
on August 22, 1862 at Danby, NY. to serve for three years in Company K
137th N. Y. Infantry. He was mustered in at Binghamton, NY, on
August
27, 1862. In a
deposition made by the
commanding
offficer William Griffin was wounded in battle at Wauhatchie on October
29, 1863 and died at Chattanooga, Tenn. Nov. 11, 1863. He was
giving
his mother money each month towards her support and that was the amount
of the pension she received presumably until her death.
